Today marked the last day of our France trip.
Honestly, I loved Chablis so much that I had originally planned to go back and visit all the wineries we missed yesterday. But Dijon was calling too, so we decided to take a leisurely stroll through its old town.
Driving southeast, the scenery gradually changed—from vast flat plains to gentle hills. The closer we got to the Burgundy hills, the more vineyards appeared. It’s really the perfect landscape for growing grapes!
Dijon, while famous, was a little underwhelming for a wine lover like me. The old town doesn’t have particularly standout tasting spots. European old towns share a lot in common with Chinese ancient cities: churches, cobblestone streets, palaces. Dijon’s unique charm lies in the lucky owls that guide visitors around—but even so, half a day is enough to see everything.
So, if your goal is to taste Burgundy wines, I’d suggest driving straight to the wine regions. The Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and surrounding vineyards are far more rewarding to explore.
On the drive back to our accommodations, the sky was breathtaking—truly a perfect way to close our French adventure.
Even though we haven’t left France yet, I can already feel we’ll be back soon, especially after chatting with a few winemakers who shared their favorite, very niche regions. It’s made me even more eager to explore those hidden gems!
